About

While new to the Kansas City area, the “earn-a-bike” concept is thriving in nonprofit bike shops across the nation. In its seven months of operation, the Revolve Community Bike Shop has earned its place in a peloton that ride to demonstrate the impact of the bicycle as “a tool for empowerment and a vehicle of change”.

Current Projects:

The 2012 Revolve Bike Recycling Project: This project is funded by the Solid Waste Management District and the MO Department of Natural Resources. It supports our ability to conduct twelve bike collections to be held in conjunction with municipal recycling events occurring across five counties served by the area’s Solid Waste Management District. The used bikes will be refurbished and made available to ANYONE participating in Revolve’s Earn-a-Bike programs, while allowing for targeted outreach where low- and no-cost transportation is needed most, in theGreen Impact Zone and Latino communities.

Earn-a-Bike: Green Impact Zone Outreach Project: This Project is funded by the Kansas City Bicycle Club, and is allowing Revolve to extend a special program promotion to 33 residents of the Green Impact Zone. Each rider earning a bike from the Zone also gets a helmet, headlight, taillight, and lock. The Green Impact Zone is a 150 square block area of Kansas City, MO, that has experienced severe abandonment and economic decline. The Revolve Community Bike Shop is adjacent to the southern boundary of the Zone, and we feel privileged to help get our neighbors rolling!

Earn-a-Bike: Latino Outreach Project: The Revolve Community Bike Shop @ 5100 Troost is happy to report that our Earn-a-Bike: Latino Outreach Project has been partially funded by The Menorah Legacy Foundation. The funding will be applied to the purchase of a vehicle to transport bicycles to those within the Latino community that have earned bicycles through the bike safety option. Stay tuned for further details regarding this exciting development!

Earn-a-Bike: Gears 4 Queers: We are now securing funding to launch this project. We will have a special promotion to the next 33 people wanting to ride that come to us from an LGBT organization. Each rider will receive a  helmet, headlight, taillight, and bike lock.

Check back soon for further details!
